Ian Foley is an investor and serial entrepreneur with 20 years in Silicon Valley. After managing venture investment for Telecom Italia and SRI International, he founded or lead sales in four startups in big data and machine learning. Currently, he is CEO of acuteIQ, a FinTech startup that uses machine learning to help banks predict businesses with loan intent.

Pankaj is a co-founder at DataCabinet. Before starting DataCabinet, Pankaj held engineering positions at AppDynamics and Microsoft. Pankaj graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and then went to Purdue University for Masters of Science. He recently completed the Graduate Certificate in Statistical Data Mining and Applications from Stanford university. He is a Deep Learning/Neural Network enthusiast.
Microsoft Research Intern and PhD Student, Stanford University
Hima is a PhD student in Computer Science at Stanford University. Her research focuses on building machine learning algorithms which can complement human decision making in domains such as criminal justice, health care and education. Some of her notable research involved evaluating predictive models which can help judges with bail decisions. She also developed a series of machine learning models which can provide diagnostic insights into the patterns of mistakes made during the process of decision making. More recently, she has been focusing on building interpretable models which not only optimize for predictive power but also emphasize on explaining how the algorithm is making those predictions. Her research is being supported by a Robert Bosch Stanford Graduate Fellowship, a Microsoft Research Dissertation Grant, and a Google Anita Borg Scholarship. Prior to joining Stanford, Hima was a technical staff member at IBM Research where she worked on natural language processing and sentiment analysis. Her research has been published in several top data mining and machine learning conferences such as NIPS, AISTATS, AAAI, KDD etc. Her research contributions were recognized with numerous awards including a best paper award at SIAM International Conference on Data Mining and IBM eminence and excellence award.

Omoju Miller is a Senior Machine Learning Data Scientist with Github. She has over a decade of experience in computational intelligence. She has a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley. In the past, she has co-led the non-profit investment in Computer Science Education for Google and served as a volunteer advisor to the Obama administration’s White House Presidential Innovation Fellows. She is considered one of the folks to watch, as part of Bloomberg’s Beta Future Founders program. She is a member of the World Economic Forum Expert Network in AI.

Bharath Ramsundar received a BA and BS from UC Berkeley in EECS and Mathematics and was valedictorian of his graduating class in mathematics. He is currently a PhD student in computer science at Stanford University with the Pande group. His research focuses on the application of deep-learning to drug-discovery. In particular, Bharath is the creator and lead-developer of DeepChem, an open source package that aims to democratize the use of deep-learning in drug-discovery and quantum chemistry. He is supported by a Hertz Fellowship, the most selective graduate fellowship in the sciences.

algorithms, applying machine learning techniques on projects for work and
with non-profit organizations through Data Kind. She is currently an AI/ML

Nathaniel earned his AB/SM in Computer Science from Harvard. He previously worked as a Quant and Trader at Jane Street and Goldman Sachs before transitioning into the pure tech industry. Nathaniel worked as a Data Scientist at Facebook, a Product Manager at Microsoft and a Software Engineer at Google before joining Vicarious. He is an avid reader and learner. Do you offer Scholarships?
Yes. In an effort to lower the barriers to entry for underrepresented women in Artificial Intelligence, we have created a Scholarship Fund. Recipients of this scholarship will receive free entry for workshops, and if they are traveling from abroad, travel and hotel accommodations will be provided for them. Apply for the Scholarship!
Do I need prior engineering experience to attend?
No. Although many of our presentations and tutorials are highly technical, our introductory sessions are geared to participants with no prior experience.
Who is the target Audience?
All are welcome at our workshops! We offer parallel intro and advanced session from hands on tutorials of the building blocks of AI to talks describing the latest research. Our participants include students, industry professionals, engineers, researchers, entrepreneurs, investors, and those just curious to learn what all the fuss is about.
Do I need to provide my own laptop?
Yes. We are not able to provide laptops at this time, but we are working to make this option available at future workshops.
Do I need to download and install any software prior to attending?
Yes. If you plan on following along with the tutorials, it is recommended that you install Python, Anaconda, Jupyter Notebook, Scikit Learn, and Tensorflow on your laptop prior to attending.
